training analytical skills interviewing business writingEffective employee training is a critical component of successful initiatives and organizational changes. In this assignment, student-consultants will conduct a needs analysis to determine whether training is a viable approach to address an opportunity of your choosing. Where training is suggested, students will propose the content and format a recommended program.
Phase 1 – Project Plan: Students will be in contact (virtually) with organization representative(s) to devise the project scope and prepare a detailed plan for completion of the project.
Phase 2 – Project Execution: Students will work on deliverables outlined in the project plan. Teams will periodically communicate with organization representative(s) as needed to complete project tasks.
Phase 3 - Outcome--Needs Analysis & Training Proposal: Each student-consultant group will submit a detailed needs analysis, with recommendations for training or alternative directions. The training proposal will fulfill the determined needs gap and the impact it can have on the employees and the organization.

Project Examples
Student-consultants, in groups of 5, will spend approximately 30 hours per team assessing an opportunity your organization is addressing to determine if and what type of training will drive success.
If their needs analysis determines that the opportunity can be be addressed with training, student-consultants will create a proposal that outlines the content, format, and outcomes for a recommended training program.
Sample student projects include, but are not limited to:
- Examining employee engagement and retention levels to determine if gaps in training are impacting results; identifying additions or changes to training programs that will bolster engagement and retention.
- Assessing customer feedback, sales, or reported quality issues on an organization’s product or service to determine whether training gaps in a critical or key areas might be impacting results; identifying additions or changes to training programs that will improve the customer experience.
- Analyzing the employee lifecycle for a particular role in your organization to identify pain points (e.g., drops in engagement or performance) determine whether training gaps exist; suggesting additions or changes to training programs to enhance the employee experience and performance in the role.
- Examining safety records to determine if training gaps are impacting results; determine corrective actions to eliminate safety hazards and mishaps.
Companies must answer the following questions to submit a match request to this experience:
Be available for a quick phone call with the organizer to initiate your relationship and confirm your scope is an appropriate fit for the experience.
Minimum of 2-4 interactions with the students in-person or remotely (approximately 4-6 hours over the duration of the project).
Provide a dedicated contact who will be available to answer periodic emails or phone calls over the duration of the project to address student’s questions or provide additional information.
Provide feedback to the instructor about the student projects.
