wireframing software design patterns component libraries ui/ux design patterns style guides mobile application development user interface prototyping user interface (ui) design usability testing user experience (ux) designOur company would like to explore designing UI for a new hybrid app and two existing native apps.
Tasks may include:
- Conducting background research on our existing application
- Identifying key areas of our current product and how they can be redesigned.
- Creation of a screen by screen UI prototype of hybrid mobile application which can be used on both iOS and Android
By the end of the project, students should complete the following list of activities:
- Familiarize themselves with our existing product to understand the requirements, design work, and feedback that already exists, and to identify gaps to be filled in the next stage
- Audit the current user flow to identify pain points, bottlenecks, and areas for improvement
- UX research- What are the must have features for the new pages being designed? What UX patterns are common across all platforms? Survey users and/or research the patterns, flows, and features needed to make the hybrid app a success.
- Design system recommendations- use understanding of best practices and the client's design patterns in the existing apps, propose a reimagined style guide and brand identity for the hybrid app. Take common features and flows to create the beginning stages of a component library in figma.
- UX design- Once you understand what's needed, and where to start, start solutioning the feature. Wireframe, or design in hifi, and have your work ready to test and validate.
- Finalize- Present the final design screens to us with the context of all their choices they made, problems they encountered, and next steps they recommend. Handoff all deliverables and findings in a package that allows for your work to be easily understood and incorporated into future projects.
Bonus steps would include:
- Conducting any sort of user testing on the prototypes to ensure ease of use and to collect user feedback.
Final deliverables should include
- The design screens and all assets in a shareable format
- A presentation as stated above of the final designs
Students will connect directly with our Lead Developer for mentorship throughout the project. We will be able to provide answers to questions such as:
- Current product understanding
- Industry standard design tools and applications
- Any sort of branding or styling advice
- Input on choices, problems or anything else the students might encounter
