UI / UX exploration of experience-project hierarchy from learner point of view
Riipen would like to explore improving the usability of our platform for learners by improving the way they interact with experiences and projects. (Note: in DTTP, an experience = a Program) On Riipen, an experience is created by an educator or administrator and describes all the parameters of the experiential learning engagement. It includes the learner audience information, the number of projects desired, the types of projects desired, and information about learner capabilities. The educator matches projects with the experience in the Riipen marketplace and approves them for their learners. Once learners access the platform, their access to projects is determined by which experience (again in DTTP context, which "Program") they are given membership to. This leads to some confusion from learners and issues we would like to address in their user experience. To a learner, the purpose of the experience is unclear. Their main interest is in projects, and the experience itself serves an unclear role in their user journey. The hierarchy of project-experience is unclear The experience can feel like an unnecessary hurdle that they need to join or once joined, click on in order to view approved projects. They'd prefer more direct access to projects. As Riipen, we'd love to hear these problems examined by a student team looking at the user experience and to hear your perspective on solutions.
Product specifications document - Sharing feedback and achievements
Develop a product requirements document describing how the feedback and achievements that users receive on Riipen could more easily be shared to other platforms, primarily LinkedIn. Currently, all users receive feedback from other users at the conclusion of a project. They also receive gamification awards called "achievements" at different points in the user journey. We would like to promote the opportunity to share achievements and feedback, and provide easy tools for users to do so. The only current offering is for learners; from received feedback they can access a "share" icon to share a piece of feedback to their LinkedIn profile as a "certification." The goal is to get more users leveraging the recognition they receive on Riipen in other contexts, and to make them aware of the benefits of doing so.
Product specifications document - Learner project ranking
Develop a product requirements document describing a feature for learners to rank their preferred projects under a single experience. Our thinking with this feature is that an educator could invite learners to the experience to allow them to review all projects and identify their preferences. The educator could use these preferences to assign learners into teams and assign them to projects based on what projects they are most interested in. The goal is to provide educators with an option to give students more say in project assignment, and to improve student engagement with projects and ultimately their outcomes, as they'll be completing projects they have more interest in.
Revamping Riipens Employee Engagement in a Remote Environment
Since Riipen's inception in 2013, our journey has seen our business and products evolve, which has naturally shaped the transformation of our Riipen culture. Over the past decade, we've successfully developed meaningful people programs and initiatives that resonate with our organization's identity. However, as we continue to evolve, it's essential to assess what works well and where we can make improvements. In 2020, we underwent a significant transformation, transitioning into a remote-first organization. This transition has expanded our horizons by allowing us to tap into exceptional talent across Canada and the US. Yet, it has also presented us with the challenge of reimagining how we foster connection and engagement in a virtual setting, without relying on traditional in-person events. We are looking for your help to rethink our current employee engagement initiatives to ensure we’re creating people programs that are impactful and aligned to increasing engagement in a remote environment. This project will leverage past employee engagement survey data and implement strategies to increase employee motivation, satisfaction, and overall engagement. In this project, you'll work directly with the Riipen People & Culture (HR) team.

As a learner, you join Riipen at the invitation of an educator or facilitator, join an experience, and from there find and start a project. We want to make this process as short and seamless as possible to reduce effort on the part of the user, and to avoid confusion or potential escalations to support.

Our company advertises thousands of products through a user interface. We would like to work with students to create a new recommendation system that returns products based on what a user has previously viewed or rated. The recommendations should also consider products viewed by other users who are like the given user. This will involve several different steps for the students, including: Analyzing our existing dataset of users, products, and reviews. Developing a recommendation engine software.

Our company advertises thousands of products online. We hope to update and revamp our existing website to attract more customers. We would like to work with students to develop a new website that is easy to maintain while providing an appealing interface for users. This can be achieved through common site building tools such as Wix, Webflow, and WordPress. This will involve several different steps for the students, including: Researching different site-building tools and their associated advantages / disadvantages. Conducting a needs analysis to determine which platform is most suitable. Building a website, with our assistance in providing the content. Providing training on updating and maintaining the website. Bonus steps in the process would also include: Testing prototypes with customers and refining ideas with feedback.

The goal of this project is to create an open source ruby package that interacts with a 3rd party REST API. This project will involve several different steps for the students, including: Researching and understanding the 3rd party API and its capabilities. Our company advertises thousands of products online. The main problem we are trying to solve is to garner more user feedback on our interface’s accessibility. We would like to collaborate with students to conduct accessibility tests on our website with pre-identified customers. This will involve several different steps for the students, including: Conducting background research on disabilities and methods of evaluating accessibility. Reaching out to customers and scheduling interviews. Familiarizing themselves with the test tasks that should be administered. Conducting accessibility tests remotely and following up with customers to thank them for their participation. Analyzing and reporting the metrics / results of the tests.
