Redesign of Old Country Inn Website and Mobile App design.
February 2025 - March 2025
https://www.figma.com/proto/Psa8lbj2JiXpSZ8aGO1r87/5121_Milestone4_DryWall?node-id=2197-919&t=TEH2jbO9YSUhYFH9-1&scaling=scale-down&content-scaling=fixed&page-id=2197%3A682&starting-point-node-id=2197%3A919&show-proto-sidebar=1Purpose:
The Old Country Inn is a small restaurant on Main Street Unionville in Markham that specializes in Austrian cuisine and has been around since 1978. Their site is not secure and outdated, lacking modern features like the ability to order or book reservations online. When you visit the restaurant, seating options are limited due to reservations, which can hinder the experience of new customers who’d like to try Austrian food.
Additionally, their inability to cater to an online customer base can hurt their revenues and cause significant visibility issues for prospective customers. Thus, we believe the Old Country Inn needs an online ordering system to minimize the strain on customer traffic in the restaurant and to increase visibility and options for those who prefer the convenience of online ordering.
Feature List:
Their current main features include the Main Menu, a kids menu, a special events section, a contact page, and a wedding and banquets section (which does not work). However, it is important to note that these are browsing features and do not have any other function than to provide information.
What I planned to implement were as follows: a menu browsing feature with images, a login, a shopping cart, and a payment system.
Challenges:
After a thorough look at the Old Country Inn website, I noticed
that the restaurant’s online presence is lackluster, the site is not secure, and it lacks basic UI and UX design principles and functionality. The restaurant has no mobile app, which I think will be most challenging to tackle since it needs to be consistent and adaptable with the site’s web design. To overcome these challenges, I intend to implement:
- Enhanced Website Functionality: Ensure the website is intuitive, mobile-friendly, and easy to navigate, allowing users to find information, order online, and make bookings effortless.
- User-Centric Design: Targeting the main audience first and Incorporating user feedback into the design process to create spaces that are both functional and aesthetically pleasing, fostering a comfortable environment for guests.
Justification:
My design choice is to make the website more user-friendly. Having a system for ordering online is more convenient for customers, and it will help the restaurant reach a larger audience. Having a simple menu with pictures makes it easier to browse and a secure payment system enables simple transactions. Making sure the website is accessible on any device means that customers can order easily from their mobile or computer. These changes will improve the user experience and help Old Country Inn grow its business.
