MGMT/OB & Leadership in the Global Context

MGMT/ORGB

Oct 24, 2024 - Dec 4, 2024

Managing a cross-cultural organization is not a simple task. Different cultures make different assumptions when they have to make decisions. Companies must make sure that employees with different cultures work together at their best. Ignoring cross-cultural issues might cause severe damages to the organization. In this course, students will identify and examine current trends and issues as they pertain to hiring/retaining/motivating a team or key individuals in this context. Students in teams of five (each with a team lead) from University Canada West will develop an action plan that addresses a leadership or management challenge currently faced by your organization. Based on the information you provide, consultant teams will deliver an action plan that accounts for your unique circumstances and outlines a path to a more engaged and productive team.

Students will apply their knowledge in digital marketing to help your organization evaluate a digital marketing plan, or solve a current digital marketing challenge. Please, note that this is a top-line digital strategy with recommendations and examples, but students will not implement their recommendations. For example, teams will not build websites, create ads, social media calendars, keyword lists, etc. Students will meet with the client occasionally throughout the term based on specific needs and conduct research by doing a thorough SWOT analysis to understand the current situation of the company. Oct 14, 2024 - Dec 23, 2024

The BUSI 660, a capstone project-based course, is designed for students in the final term of their MBA program. The course has a strong analytical, applied, and experiential orientation. Students work in groups of 4-5 to focus on a challenge/opportunity for the business. The students' process - and ultimate deliverable will include a current analysis of the business, problem or opportunity identification, research (as applicable), recommended solutions/strategy with implementation plan, budget and finally, risk identification and mitigation strategies (again, as applicable). The project can be for a Canadian business of any size, however enterprises run by solo-preneurs would probably not provide the necessary scope.
